Club Race and Family Ski Day Rush Burnett Memorial Cup
23RD ANNUAL SKI DAY, RUSH BURNETT MEMORIAL RACE AND INTER-CLUB RACE
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2010
WRAP-UP
Mother Nature smiled upon us with over three feet of snow the week before our family ski day and club race on Feb. 7, 2010. The roads were cleared, the sky was sunny, and the slopes and race course groomed for our big annual event. Lots of members and guest showed up as well as many from other clubs to join us for a day of fun. Jeff Beinhaur and his staff set a demanding course and maintained it as the ruts built up from so much snow.
The LSC racers were the first to enter the starting gate to continue what we have been doing for the past 23 years.....RACING FOR THE GOLD! Excitement filled the air whether one was there for the sheer fun of it or had more serious ambitions of taking home a medal.
Winning the men's gold and taking home the Rush Burnett Memorial Cup was STEVE RHEAULT who was well out ahead of the pack DAVE KAZMERSKI did a super run winning the men's silver medal. Right on his tail was CRAIG FOREMAN to win the men's bronze.
In her usual style of controlled speed was Kathy Hummer to win the women's gold medal. DEVY
KAZMERSKI came out of the gate a flying and kept up her speed through the ruts to win the women's silver. Skating fast to that first gate was GEE KALASKY who held it together to win the women's bronze medal.
SAM SWEENEY has developed into a fine young racer and puts his heart into the sport. For his efforts he won the Junior Division gold medal with a score that was right on the heels of Steve Rheault. Now SAM "THE MAN" SWEENEY is headed for Winter Park, Colorado, to compete in the National NASTAR races. At age 14 SAM is headed for great things in the world of ski racing. It all started at Ski Roundtop and the race clinics.
The Inter-Club race brought LSC members out in force to bring home the Challenge Cup Trophy once again. STEVE RHEAULT took home the men's gold. KATHY HUMMER was the fastest lady on the course and was awarded the women's gold medal while DEVY KAZMERSKI won the women's bronze medal.
VIC MARTELL showed his stuff on the race course, fast and steady, to win the gold in the Senior Division. VIC has spent many hours of clinics with the ASIA program and has honed his skills. He now carries a good luck charm as he was presented with JACK KALASKY'S ASIA pin. "Do him proud Vic."
Racing is our game here at LSC and we showed that by placing first and winning the EPSC trophy in Lake Tahoe in January. The winning team consisted of Steve Rheault, Ed Cook, Sandi Cauler, Gee Kalasky, Fred Martin, and Roger Brubaker. Ski Roundtop has been the training ground for years for most of our racers. The racing clinics lead by Jeff Beinhaur have proven to be extremely beneficial as well as fun.
Much fun was had by many members and guest of several clubs in the big white tent in front of the main lodge at Ski Roundtop. It turned out to be an ideal location for our awards luncheon and party.
See you all next season when we again "RUSH FOR THE GOLD".
